Bad PR vs Penny Arcade, what a way to end this year!

Posted by: Cybermario @ 5:42 am Share in Facebook

When a PR damages a product image like this you have to wonder, what the heck was he thinking? Unless you have not been online for the last days, then you already know about the edrama “OceanMarketting” (now known as OceanStratagy, yeah he misspelled the twitter handle!) and Penny Arcade.

Haven seen bad PR before, this guy really took the gold from all of them and did it like a champ! Check this Penny Arcade article if you haven’t.
So what’s my take and thoughts on this? Simple. Clients can be real trolls sometimes, people can get mad and spam your inbox with lots of crap. I myself have been admin in online communities and know how people can bash at you when they are pissed.
That is normal and is never going to change, but they’re players and customers, they are asking for a service and they are not a company representative, Paul Christoforo from OM was. When you have a position of power, specially in the PR field you cannot go threatening people like he did.
Early morning commenting with a friend i told her he should have emailed an apology to the customer right after those emails and i quote:

Mario: wont be easier to offer an apology even if its a lie?
Anna: ^this
Mario: “i do offer an apology, a bad mix of tylenol and beer made me go nuts and i truly sorry”
Anna: xD

But he didn’t, he thought he could go “Gangsta” on a small ant called Dave, but this is the internet and a small ant can gather thousands of small ants and we all small ants can become a real nasty badass crowd of Killer ants!

Certainly he did apologize to Dave and Penny Arcade published the so called apology. Now i want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but as i stated before it may be a blatant lie.

After i was linked to this article in Kotaku, i wondered what kind of moron this guy really was that is even impersonating representatives of the Avenger controllers, go here and have a good read, this guy is something else!
So throwing my 2 cents and i’m done with this, people can sometimes be morons (not saying Dave was a moron) but you as a PR must remain calm, not going gangsta on them. Had a bad day? take a breath, get up and stay away from the computer, believe me i know.
The last thing you want to do when you are about to explode is sitting in front of a computer, take your time and then reply to people when you are in a better mood, as a simple internet user you can spam, rant and curse all you want, as the PR of a product you can’t, you only damage the people you are working for.

Avenger controllers got a tremendous hit and the image of the product could have been damaged forever (we will see) just because someone having a “bad day” decided to go bonkers with a hardcore gamer.
To Paul; welcome to the internet, grow a thicker skin or search a new area of work because this is how a lot of people roll, i heard the mayor of boston is hiring janitors.

Thanks for reading,
Mario.

Some news before 2011 is gone

Posted by: Cybermario @ 6:25 am Share in Facebook

So that special time of the year is coming and Gendo Claus is coming to town! Ho~ Ho~ Ho~! It has been some time since posting any news, my sincere apologies to our readers.

There’s been many ideas and projects i wanted to make a reality but alas, i did not, mainly for lack of manpower, a few health issues and what not.
If you know who can perform a cheap surgery so i can get Doctor Octopus arms, like in Spiderman to multitask and work more on the website drop me an e-mail.

Evangelion Gendo Claus

Well, there are ideas, i am dropping and/or changing to bring more anime content to the website as it was intended, as i am unable to work “Artist of the Month” and i’m not really that knowledgeable about Seiyu, sorry my Otaku powers are weak! This project will be on the backburner until someone with the proper desire to work on it jumps in the bandwagon.
In the meantime “Artist of the Month” will become “Opening/Ending of the week.” Where i’ll post and comment about a theme i like and why, a bit about the artist, etc.
The Anime Gallery doesn’t have much content now, but then again doing my best will be uploading new images soon, the lyrics database is semi functional but i dont want to release it to the public until we make it work like we want.

Anime Radio, for a long time wanted to bring this back to life but could not, finally got a host for it, not perfect and may crash from time to time but 90% uptime is not bad, been uploading tons of music and soon will be adding the link on the website.
Stay tuned because we will have more reviews, including anime, and don’t hate me, if i spoil some shows for you. It’s hard not to when you write about some shows, some contests coming soon and more.

If you feel generous this season, click our Splitreason and Play-Asia banners, you will be supporting the web and you will make me smile.
Last but not least, THANK YOU!! Thanks everyone for visiting the web and hope you enjoy what we have to offer, we are steadily growing and will have more this 2012. So please stay with us, Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

~Mario

Chrono Trigger Review (PSN)

Posted by: Cybermario @ 7:25 am Share in Facebook

Long ago, back in the 90′s when Seth Green had a girly haircut and we all used “rad!” to describe something cool, the 16-bit era was the golden age for gamers around the world. This fantastic RPG now considered to be one of the greatest of the genre was made, Chrono Trigger.
Squaresoft released this classic RPG for the Super Nes and later on made its way to the Playstation back in 1999, a version often criticized due to nasty loading times. So how does it feel to have a classic in a new generation console? Let’s find out!

Chrono Trigger

Story
The year 1000AD, Lucca and her father are about to show at the local fair their new invention, a teleporter. Marle volunteers to test the device, it goes all wrong and she disappears into thin air.
Now Crono and company will travel in time, in search of Marle, meet new companions and start an adventure throughout the past, present and future, facing danger and a lot of menaces to defeat the ultimate evil, Lavos!
I’m afraid to say they never cross paths with Marty McFly nor Doctor Who, but still an amazing story most of us know and remember.

Chrono Trigger

Gameplay
Chrono trigger is an RPG that was revolutionary for so many aspects; including time travel and how it influenced the game mechanics, the (back in the day) concept of multiple endings, playing with time paradoxes and what not.
The time travel mechanics influencing gameplay are unique; our heroes need a massive source of energy, they find one in the present, it’s depleted and will need hundreds of years to be recharged, they leave it in the past, travel to the distant future and they find it fully charged. That is, but one of many examples i can bring up in here, the developers played a lot with this and they landed the concept in a way that excelled.
The battle system was also unique letting you do special attack with 2 different characters, not to mention the diversity of characters to select and the build for each one of them. Unlike traditional RPG’s; this one did not have random encounters, was easy to spot moving bushes or places where enemies were waiting to ambush your character, some were easily avoidable and others not, this was something that made Chrono Trigger unique back in the day.
Squaresoft did a great job with the amount of choices at your disposal, including tons of customizables, which made this one of the iconic games of the genre, now dated compared to other titles ChronoTrigger still remains a winner!

Chrono Trigger

Graphics 7/10
Before the overrated 3D… 2D sprites ruled, even so and after the years playing Chrono Trigger in glorious p2d pixel art, brings back memories and looks great just as it did back in the 90′s, with fantastic designs by Akira Toriyama’s Bird Studio.
Being a port from the Playstation we have the fantastic anime cutscenes Toei Animation, did for the videogame, simply Great!
If you like a game with an awesome retro feeling or care more for the excellent gameplay over graphics you won’t have a reason to complain.

Sound 7/10
What you can expect from a game made in the 16-bit era, no voice acting and sounds helped to set the mood and they did it quite right, priceless and evokes nostalgia.

Downside
This is of course a direct port from the Playstation 1 console and not the Super Nes, so the hatred for lengthy load times are there.
I truly love the anime cutscenes, but is a shame this release is an untouched port from the Playstation, meaning there will be issues with pixelation and the animations, do not shine properly as it should on HD, probably with some time put into development a HD treatment could have been fantastic.

Chrono Trigger

Overall
I am glad to see a classic like this making a comeback, Chrono Trigger was amazing back in the 90′s and still is nowadays, proving not everything needs to be latest generation graphics to hook the players with a great story.
If you loved this RPG or if you never had the chance to play it before and you wonder, about the game everyone glorifies as one of the best in the genre, it’s a real bargain on the Playstation Network Store and you will not regret buying it.
If you cannot stand the load times you may want to go for the wiiware release which is direct Super NES port, if you don’t own a Wii, cannot afford or don’t want to invest in buying the original release then PSN is your best choice!
Chrono Trigger as a digital download is available for the Wii Virtual Console, the PlayStation Network, iOS and Android devices. So whatever your cup of tea is, you have no excuse not to play the game. Sadly the game is not available for the Sega Game Gear but oh well… Enjoy!

Giving the game an 8 out of 10
