Gravity Falls: Volume 1 – Six Strange tales DVD Review

Six_strange_talesDVD Release Date: October 15, 2013
Suggested Retail Price: $19.99

Gravity Falls is not the kind of animated show you are used to see coming from Disney, i say this in a positive sense as i truly enjoyed this DVD release with the first six episodes of the show. In these we are introduced to the cast of characters, the brothers Dipper Pines and Mabel Pines.
Their parents decided they need a change of scenery and send Dipper and Mabel to Gravity Falls to visit their Grunkle Stan. He is the owner of the Mystery Shack, a tourist trap full of fake mystery objects.

Dipper finds a mysterious book journal with a note saying “trust no one”. This book will help Dipper and Mabel as they encounter supernatural beings such as the rainbow barfing gnomes trying to marry Mabel, when living clay statues take over the shack or a couple of ghosts in a haunted mini mart.
These episodes also introduce to us the first arch enemy of the family, Li’l Gideon, supposedly a fraudulent psychic trying to take down the Mystery Shack, later we find out that he actually possess powers when Mabel dumps him and he seeks to take revenge on Dipper.

Animation
High quality animation is to be expected, there’s not a single episode in which quality decreased, something that’s normally to be expected in most Disney productions.

Character Design
The designs are pretty good and characters have a lot of personality, especially Mabel, she is adorable! Aha their uncle reminds me of Doctor Who with that fez.. I mentioned before it’s not the kind of show you’d expect to see from Disney, the style of the designs remind me more of a Cartoon Network show.

Presentation and Packaging
Top Notch i must say, slipcover with embosed characters and titles in the front portraying Dipper, Mabel and their uncle exploring the woods. The back features a listing of the episodes, a synopsis of the show and some character images.
The DVD case has the same art as the slip cover in both front and back. Single-sided, dual-layered disc (DVD-9) / Black Keepcase in Embossed Cardboard Slipcover

Overall
Gravity Falls offers a great experience for both children and grown ups alike, something i love is the X-Files dejavu and how they play and parody Illuminati, myths, fables and monsters in an amazing funny cartoon.
The different language options are good and offers great value, includign the bonus Mystery Journal this is a DVD you cannot miss if you are a fan of the show or a newcomer to the universe of Gravity Falls, a must have!

Giving this DVD a 9.5 out of 10!
