Starting into a new anime series, we often times quickly establish characters that we like, and others we don’t right award quite fancy right away (or ever.) Have you ever gotten yourself “trapped?” Let’s start with the series “Maria Holic” as an opening example.

Kikuchi Makoto from The Idolm@ster
The main character, Kanako, is looking for a romantic girl-girl relationship at her new all-girls school, and believes she has found the perfect girl… Until she discovers that Maria is actually a crossdresser… Trapped. See, a trap character, if you do not know what it is, is either a male or female character that shares strong characteristics/structure of the opposite sex that is easily mistaken for that gender.
Fujioka Haruhi from Ouran High School Host Club
While the more frequent gender used is males mistaken for females, there are quite a few females mistaken for males. One of the best examples is Haruhi from Ouron Host Club, but then there’s also Haruka (Sailor Uranus) from Sailor Moon and Makoto from The Idolm@ster. I know for a fact there are more, but at this moment in time, I’m drawing huge blanks, so please excuse me for excluding what I’m sure are many.
Tenoh Haruka (Sailor Uranus) from Sailor Moon
